Hippocampus Magazine Launches Book Division

[Note: this post originally appeared on HippocampusMagazine.com, and we’re also sharing it here.]

This report coming to you live from HippoCamp 2016 in Lanacaster, PA!

Last night after a splendid set of evening readings, Hippocampus Magazine unveiled its next endeavor. We wanted to share this news in person, here at HippoCamp, because it was during last year’s closing remarks that we first hinted we had something else up our sleeves. We’re finally ready to share the news.

Here’s the video:

In case you didn’t watch the video, we’re launching a small press division. Our first title is a celebration of our first five years, a collection called “Selected Memories.” (A little play on the brain there, a la “selective memories…”)

Pre-orders begin Nov. 1, 2016 Oct. 11, 2016, and it goes on sale officially in early winter 2017. (We will have them at AWP 2017, where we’re also hosting an off-site event!)

What’s next for the press? We’re looking for it! We open for queries Aug. 15. We are looking for:

  • Memoirs
  • Essay collections
  • Literary journalism
  • Travel writing
  • Craft and creativity books

And we’ll also have a call out for a curated anthology every now and then, including one to be announced Aug. 22!

Thank you for your support as our organization continues to grow!

[NOTE: In the video Donna — in her excitement — misspoke (a verbal typo!?) and said the calls for submission open October 15 — while the slide and all other material definitely says August 15! We’re open!]

Post edited 10/4/16 to reflect change in date for presales.
