"My father was possessed by a trailer. Maybe that’s how it all began, what let the evil in."

A few early readers share their thoughts on Selected Memories: Five Years of Hippocampus Magazine
Hippocampus is fast becoming one of the best magazines—print and online—for new creative nonfiction. It is a pleasure to see this well-edited journal bring out a range of its finest pieces from previous issues. Two in particular shine brightly: "Lessons in Sign" is a brilliant story told with narrative aplomb, and "Until We Have Loved," which contains a masterful use of biological detail plaited with a moving story of love's labor lost on a tiny creature that most of us would not shed a tear for.
I continue to be impressed by the work published in Hippocampus. Founder Donna Talarico has built a phenomenal magazine -- and community -- dedicated to creative nonfiction, and I am pleased to see some of Hippocampus' most memorable pieces come to life in this print collection. This moving anthology contains coming-of-age stories; stories that reveal deep, dark secrets; stories of love and loss; and some lighter pieces that show the more absurd and hilarious sides of everyday life. A collection for everyone who has ever felt the sharp pain of life, as well as its great joys. The editor is to be commended on her extraordinary work.
Selected Memories features the work of 33 writers.
